Abstract
The present research aims to analyze Ecuadorian cinema from the parameters of production,
financing and promotion in order to determine a possible impact on the world film
community, which is interesting, since Ecuador is dominated by auteur, independent and
documentary films, which have as their path the major international film festivals of the first
category. This project brings together a journey through the history of Ecuadorian cinema,
from the moment when citizens first observed a film projection, to the first steps in the
development of national productions, its progressive development and its constant attempt to
present itself as an industry, this from the hand of the institutions that have governed the
development of cinema under the financial support they provide; In addition to an analysis of
cinema as a form of communication and its way of reaching audiences to convey a message
and generate a dialogue through its themes and the different audiovisual narratives that make
Ecuadorian cinema special and different. Hence, the general objective of this research was to
analyze the factors that determine the impact of Ecuadorian cinema in the international context
through the study of its production, financing and promotion, for which we used observation
sheets, collection of statistical information and interviews which helped to gather information
to validate the fact that Ecuadorian cinema has an impact in the international context, in
addition to what are the shortcomings that the cinema has to improve its distribution and
promotion component. Thus, the results of this research favor the national film community
because it allows to know the state of Ecuadorian cinema in international film spaces.
Description
La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el cine ecuatoriano a partir de los
parámetros de la producción, financiación y promoción para a través de estos, determinar un
posible impacto en la comunidad cinematográfica mundial, lo que resulta interesante, ya que
en Ecuador predomina el cine de autor, el cine independiente y el cine documental, que tienen
como camino los grandes festivales internacionales de primera categoría. Este proyecto reúne
un recorrido por la historia del cine ecuatoriano, desde el momento en que los ciudadanos
observaron por primera vez una proyección de cine, hasta los primeros pasos del desarrollo de
las producciones nacionales, su progresivo desarrollo y su constante intento de presentarse
como una industria, esto de mano de las instituciones que han regido el desarrollo del cine
bajo el apoyo financiero que estas brindan; además de un análisis del cine en forma de
comunicación y su manera de llegar a las audiencias para trasmitir un mensaje y generar un
dialogo a través de sus temáticas y de las diferentes narrativas audiovisuales que hacen del
cine ecuatoriano especial y diferente. De ahí que el objetivo general de esta investigación fue
analizar los factores que determinan el impacto del cine ecuatoriano en el contexto
internacional a través del estudio de su producción, financiamiento y promoción, para lo cual
se utilizó fichas de observación, recolección de información estadística y entrevistas, las
cuales ayudaron a recopilar información para poder validar el hecho de que el cine ecuatoriano
tiene impacto en el contexto internacional, además de cuáles son sus falencias y así poder
mejorar su componente de distribución y promoción. Es así que los resultados de esta
investigación favorecen a la comunidad cinematográfica nacional porque permite conocer el
estado del cine ecuatoriano en los espacios cinematográficos internacionales.
