Item Open Access Procesos de identidad regional en medios de comunicación de Costa y Sierra ecuatoriana a través de las redes sociales del fútbol nacional durante los años 2020 y 2021(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Ibarra, 2022-07) Acosta Jara, Diego MartínRegionalism in Ecuador has transcended from generation to generation, being present in several areas of national culture, such as politics and sports. This research examines the presence of regional identity processes in social networks, the main user environment in the digital era, and focuses specifically in the regionalist practices generated within the soccer ecosystem. Through the analysis of the media content of Radio La Red, La Redonda, Diblú and Caravana on Twitter, it was possible to find through quantitative data on the presence of regionalism among inhabitants of the Costa and Sierra regions of the country. The information was collected in the four media enterprises with observation cards, and the results were presented graphically. Interviews were also conducted with professionals in the area of sports journalism, who contributed with their point of view and experience in the field of study. For the analysis, fans of Liga Deportiva Universitaria and Barcelona Sporting Club were selected. The study period was the seven matches played between both institutions in the period from 2020 to 2021. Through this time, the tweets published by each media outlet on match days and the responses to them by their audience were collected. The research corroborated the existence of regionalism among fans of Ecuadorian soccer teams by finding samples of its practice. Finally, it concludes by identifying the difficulty of eradicating this harmful practice, but the possible solution that, over time, can dissipate the regionalist sentiment in Ecuador.
