Abstract
This work consists of a theoretical and an applied part. The first chapter corresponds to the theoretical background related to translation, language and culture. It starts with a section in which reflections on the translation task are made, including a listing of translation techniques and comments on untranslatability. Then, a second section regarding language and culture is presented. In it, worldview is discussed. Next, since the two stories make part of the Epera mythology, the importance of myth, oral tradition, and the process of moving from orality to writing are discussed. Chapter two consists of a description of the characteristics of Sia Pedee, English, and Spanish. First, a phylogenetic classification of the languages involved in this work is presented, focusing on the Chocoan and Indo European families of languages. This section is followed by a description of the current situation of the three languages, with special emphasis on Sia Pedee.
