This study was developed at Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador in Esmeraldas (PUCESE) with the teachers of General English. Teachers teach much vocabulary for students to increase the number of words that they should use in their lexicon. In the different levels of General English, gender differences in the use of learners’ lexicon are noticed. It means, men and women are different in the use of English lexicon. Gender is not a typical issue of concerning among teachers; however it is a phenomenon able to influence somehow the learners’ English performance. Consequently, the present study was intended to find out what the gender differences in English lexicon at PUCESE are in order to recognize how gender influences the students’ lexicon. This found information will be useful to the teachers and students’ language community at PUCESE to create strategies for not to allow gender differences influence in a negative way the learning process. In addition, it could be used as footing to do deeper researches about this sociolinguistics topic.
