Características de los adultos mayores en parroquias rurales y urbanas del cantón Ibarra: un análisis sociodemográfico

Abstract
El envejecimiento de la población mundial es un fenómeno demográfico sin precedentes. Este cambio estructural está impulsado por una variedad de factores, como una tasa de natalidad más baja y una esperanza de vida más larga. Como resultado, la proporción de adultos mayores en la población total sigue aumentando en la mayoría de las sociedades. A partir de la premisa anterior, se decide realizar un estudio cuyo objetivo fue comparar las características sociodemográficas de los adultos mayores de las parroquias urbanas (La Primavera y Caranqui) y rurales (La Carolina y Rumipamba) que pertenecen al Cantón Ibarra, como parte de una visión general de la población de estudio durante el período abril-agosto del 2024, lo cual permitió hacer un diagnóstico de esta población para detectar problemas en este grupo poblacional vulnerable. Para este fin, se realizó una investigación descriptiva a partir de una recopilación de datos ya existentes en trabajos de integración curricular anteriores, elaborados por estudiantes de titulación del Técnico Superior en Enfermería y Tecnología Superior en Atención Integral a Adultos Mayores de la PUCE Ibarra Los resultados de este análisis sociodemográfico no solo mejorarán la comprensión académica del envejecimiento de la población, sino que también proporcionarán datos útiles para la creación de políticas públicas y programas de intervención que satisfagan las necesidades y deseos de los adultos mayores de Imbabura.
The aging of the world population is an unprecedented demographic phenomenon. This structural change is driven by a variety of factors, such as a lower birth rate and longer life expectancy. As a result, the proportion of older adults in the total population continues to increase in most societies. Based on the previous premise, it was decided to carry out a study whose objective was to analyze the sociodemographic characteristics of older adults from urban parishes (La Primavera and Caranqui) and rural parishes (La Carolina and Rumipamba) that belong to the Ibarra Canton, as part of an overview of the study population during the period April-August 2024, which allowed a diagnosis of this population to detect problems in this vulnerable population group. For this purpose, a descriptive research was carried out based on a compilation of data already existing in previous curricular integration works, prepared by students of the Higher Technician in Nursing and Higher Technology in Comprehensive Care for Older Adults from the PUCE Ibarra. The results of this sociodemographic analysis will not only improve academic understanding of population aging, but will also provide useful data for the creation of public policies and intervention programs that meet the needs and desires of older adults in Imbabura.
