Abstract
El presente trabajo de titulación aborda la rehabilitación de la antigua fábrica San Miguel en Otavalo, un inmueble patrimonial de significativo valor histórico. El objetivo principal es transformar la fábrica en un centro cultural multifuncional, promoviendo la integración social y cultural de la comunidad local. El proyecto se seleccionó debido a su valor histórico y patrimonial, por su ubicación estratégica en el límite entre lo urbano-rural y su potencial para la revitalización urbana y la integración social, así como su actual condición de foco de inseguridad y deterioro urbano. La metodología empleada incluye un análisis del estado actual del inmueble, la evaluación del posible uso y la integración del entorno natural en el diseño arquitectónico. Además, se aborda de manera integral factores económicos, sociales, culturales y ambientales, aprovechando la proximidad del río Jatunyacu y la quebrada. Los resultados esperados del proyecto incluyen la reactivación del área mediante la pro puesta de espacios accesibles para todos y la conexión de dos sectores de la ciudad que actualmente están separados por la Panamericana E35 a través del diseño de un parque que incluye zonas de encuentro activas y pasivas. Se pretende que esta área verde esté conectada con el equipamiento y de esta forma promover un núcleo de interacción y cohesión social entre las comunidades mestizas e indígenas. El centro cultural propone la integración de tres plazas temáticas que articulan todo el proyecto. La concepción arquitectónica incluye la liberación de algunos muros para dotar de dinamismo al proyecto, mejorando la vinculación entre las zonas interiores y exteriores. Además, se plantean volúmenes transparentes en áreas estratégicas del equipamiento, acentuando la conexión visual y funcional entre el interior y el exterior del centro cultural. Este trabajo subraya la importancia de la conservación patrimonial y la adaptación de espacios históricos a nuevos usos sostenibles, contribuyendo al desarrollo cultural y educativo de la comunidad.
This thesis addresses the rehabilitation of the old San Miguel factory in Otavalo, a heritage building of significant historical value. The main objective is to transform the factory into a multifunctional cultural center, promoting the social and cultural integration of the local community. The project was selected due to its historical and heritage value, its strategic location at the urban-rural boundary, and its potential for urban revitalization and social integration, as well as its current state as a focus of insecurity and urban decay. The methodology includes an analysis of the current condition of the building, evaluation of its potential uses, and integration of the natural surroundings into the architectural design. Additionally, it comprehensively addresses economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors, leveraging the proximity of the Jatunyacu river and a gully. The expected outcomes of the project include the revitalization of the area through the proposal of accessible spaces for all and the connection of two city sectors currently separated by the Pan-American Highway E35 through the design of a park with both active and passive meeting areas. This green space aims to be connected with the cultural facilities, thereby promoting a nucleus of interaction and social cohesion between mestizo and indigenous communities. The cultural center proposes the integration of three thematic plazas that articulate the entire project. The architectural concept includes the removal of some walls to bring dynamism to the project, enhancing the connection between interior and exterior spaces. Furthermore, transparent volumes are proposed in strategic areas of the facility, emphasizing the visual and functional connection between the interior and exterior of the cultural center. This work highlights the importance of heritage conservation and the adaptation of historical spaces to new sustainable uses, contributing to the cultural and educational development of the community.
