Item Open Access TOLUENO (ACIDO HIPURICO EN ORINA) Y NEUROTOXICIDAD EN FÁBRICAS DE PINTURAS 2016(2017) Guerrero Lana, Sylvia Liliana; Gamarra Guerrero, Roger Xavier; Canching, Juan Carlos; Guerrero Tapia, Luis AndrésThe biological indexes of exposure are characterized by being reference values at the time of the assessment and control of risks associated with a determined occupational exposure. Several countries have dealt with this and have determined maximum exposure limits for urinary metabolites generated by the interaction that a worker may have with toluene. In the case of Ecuador, there is no legislation establishing maximum permissible values for biological monitoring of toluene. The aim of the research is to determine the values of hippuric acid in urine and the relationship with neurotoxic symptoms in workers in the paint factory. The methodology used is an observational, cross-sectional, non-experimental, quantitative study where inclusion and elimination criteria, submitted to an ethics committee, were applied in a population of 100 workers working in two toluene-containing paint factories. For the determination of neurotoxic symptoms the PNF questionnaire was used and the quantification of hippuric acid in urine was performed by the method belonging to the manual of analytical methods of the NIOSH. In the study, we can see a direct relationship between neurotoxic symptoms and hippuric acid concentration as toluene markers. The use of these two methods could constitute an early diagnosis and deserves to be monitored.
