Abstract

To describe the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers about the care of newborns with neonatal jaundice at the San Luis de Otavalo Hospital during the period January 2024-February 2024. A study with a cross-sectional descriptive approach was developed with an assessment tool of our own creation that evaluated different specific points to describe the level of knowledge of neonatal jaundice. The results yielded from the surveys showed how of the 100% of the mothers surveyed 21% presented a low level of knowledge, 73% presented an adequate level of knowledge while only 5% presented an excellent level of knowledge about neonatal jaundice. It is considered that the general level of knowledge about neonatal jaundice is inadequate in specific questions, especially in relation to the characteristics and consequences of neonatal jaundice, which is a key point for its detection and initial approach.
