Abstract
Las estadísticas de salud a nivel mundial y en el Ecuador sobre las enfermedades crónico degenerativas indican que se encuentran en constante aumento y que estas, a su vez, son producto del incremento poblacional de las personas adultas mayores (PAM) con deterioro de la salud. En este sentido, para detectar a tiempo los riesgos de padecer estas enfermedades que generan dependencia y conllevan a la disfuncionalidad de este grupo etario, se decide realizar una investigación cuyo objetivo fue describir el estado de salud de las personas adultas mayores a través de la medición de las cuatro esferas de Valoración Geriátrica Integral en la Comunidad de trabajadores y jubilados de la PUCE Ibarra, durante el periodo enero 2024. Para ello se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal y no experimental, tomando como muestra 30 adultos mayores de 60 años. Entre los resultados obtenidos se destacan que el 50% de la población tiene sobrepeso, el 43% presentó hipertensión arterial y un 7% diabetes mellitus; Por otra parte, el 43% de la población tiene indicios de sarcopenia y existe la tendencia de que un 13% de la población está en riesgo de presentar demencia y depresión. Estos resultados indican la necesidad de diseñar e implementar programas relacionados con la práctica de hábitos saludables para el mantenimiento de la salud, funcionalidad e independencia de esta población longeva.

In this sense, to detect in time the risks of suffering from these diseases that generate dependency and lead to dysfunctionality in this age group, it was decided to carry out an investigation whose objective was to describe the health status of older adults through measurement. of the four spheres of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in the Community of workers and retirees of the PUCE Ibarra, during the period January 2024. For this, a descriptive, cross-sectional and non-experimental study was carried out, taking as a sample 30 adults over 60 years of age. Among the results obtained, it stands out that 50% of the population is overweight, 43% had high blood pressure and 7% had diabetes mellitus; On the other hand, 43% of the population has signs of sarcopenia and there is a tendency for 13 % of the population is at risk of presenting dementia and depression. These results indicate the need to design and implement programs related to the practice of healthy habits to maintain the health, functionality and independence of this long-lived population.
