Cotacachi is known for its natural, gastronomic and artisan attractions in the province of Imbabura. One of the main activities that generate economic income for the canton is the manufacture of leather goods. This activity originated in the early twentieth century, as a result of the Second World War and the demand for leather goods. Over time, the leather industry sector has evolved, improving its production techniques and tools. The canton presents some problems, one of the most serious is the difficulty in acquiring raw materials, which causes the increase in prices of products, causing the loss of traditional workshops, as they are affected by the lack of commercialization of their handicrafts. Therefore, rapid intervention is necessary to boost the manufacturing sector in the canton. The design of an interpretation and production center for the leather industry in the canton of Cotacachi, in the province of Imbabura, is proposed. This will be developed in the El Sagrario parish, with a coverage area towards the sectors with the highest manufacturing activity, Quiroga with 42% and El Sagrario with 58%. The project seeks to promote the leather industry at a national and international level, in addition to promoting manufacturing tourism in the canton.
