Abstract
La presente investigación se realizó en la provincia Imbabura, catón Cotacachi, parroquia Quiroga, con el objetivo de demostrar experimentalmente la efectividad de un método alternativo consistente en almacenar semillas de la familia Cucurbitaceae con gel de sílice dentro de vasijas de barro herméticamente cerradas durante 6 meses. Se evaluó el método propuesto por medio del Diseño Completamente al Azar (DCA), con arreglo factorial AxB, conformado por 16 tratamientos y 3 repeticiones, con 25 semillas por cada unidad experimental. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la especie de cucurbitácea con mayores remanentes en Quiroga es Cucurbita ficifolia (los sambos) con 51 puntos de colecta. También se determinó el nivel de sustentabilidad de las comunidades de Quiroga, pudiendo ser Cuicocha pana, Arrayan y Cuicocha con valores promedio de 4,5; 4,1 y 4 respectivamente clasificadas como en vías de sustentabilidad. Por otro lado, se demostró que los dos métodos evaluados poseen la misma efectividad para mantener el potencial germinativo de las semillas de cucurbitácea (94%). Pero, el método de conservación en cuarto frío demostró ser más efectivo que las vasijas de barro en cuanto a mantener la viabilidad de semillas (en un 3%) y crecimiento de radícula de las plántulas (un incremento de 39 mm). Por lo antes mencionado, la conservación en el cuarto frío demostró ser el más eficaz de los dos métodos empleados en este estudio.
This research was carried out in the province of Imbabura, Cotacachi, Quiroga parish, with the objective of experimentally demonstrating the effectiveness of an alternative method consisting of storing seeds of the Cucurbitaceae family with silica gel in hermetically sealed clay pots for 6 months. The proposed method was evaluated by means of the Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with AxB factorial arrangement, consisting of 16 treatments and 3 replications, with 25 seeds for each experimental unit. The results obtained indicate that the cucurbitaceous species with the largest remnants in Quiroga is Cucurbita ficifolia (los sambos) with 51 collection points. The level of sustainability of the communities in Quiroga was also determined, with Cuicocha pana, Arrayan and Cuicocha with average values of 4.5, 4.1 and 4 respectively classified as in the process of sustainability. On the other hand, it was demonstrated that the two methods evaluated have the same effectiveness in maintaining the germination potential of cucurbit seeds (94%). However, the cold storage method proved to be more effective than the clay pots in maintaining seed viability (3%) and seedling radicle growth (an increase of 39 mm). Therefore, cold room storage proved to be the more effective of the two methods used in this study.
