Item Open Access Amenazas al ecosistema de páramo por la presencia de perros ferales (Canis lupus familiaris) en el sector de Pantavi dentro del Parque Nacional Cotacachi Cayapas zona alta(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Sede Ibarra, 2021-11) Barrera Ruiz, Marcos IsraelThe Cotacachi Cayapas National Park, located between the provinces of Imbabura and Esmeraldas, is an area made up of different ecosystems that are home to a great variety of wild species. 21.48% of its surface is covered with paramos that face various threats, where the loss of biodiversity due to populations of feral dogs is one of the most important problems to take into account, since it is home to a diversity of wild species They occupy a variety of important niches and are involved in various ecological processes. To analyze the impact that feral dogs generates on the ecosystem, the Relative Abundance Index, Activity Index and Activity Patterns were used, with which the information recorded in 6 camera traps located in two different transects during two months was evaluated, generating data of the presence of feral dogs and other species present in the Pantaví area within the Cotacachi Cayapas National Park high zone. As results, three wild species of mammals (Lycalopex culpaeus, Silvilagus andinus, Odocoileus virginianus), three species of wild birds (Phalcoboenus carunculatus, Cathartes aura, Vultur gryphus) and an introduced species (Bos taurus) were recorded, which were compared with the recorded data from feral dogs, and interaction with wild fauna was identified, as well as threats by having roles of competitor and predator, turning the feral dog into a species that threatens the subsistence of some native species of the paramo ecosystem.
