This research focuses on the social problem of child labor in light of current Ecuadorian regulations, with an emphasis on the study of the rights recognized in the Constitution to children and adolescents, as a priority attention group. The study focused on the city of Atuntaqui and was motivated by the desire to evaluate the effectiveness of the First Reform to the Ordinance that implements and regulates the comprehensive rights protection system in the Antonio Ante Canton. In this sense, the general objective of the research was to determine what legal and institutional mechanisms have been implemented for the protection of children in child labor situations in the city of Atuntaqui in the period 2023-2024, through a field study that allows evaluating the effectiveness of these measures and proposing recommendations to strengthen the protection of this vulnerable population. With a qualitative approach, inductive, normative and socio-legal methods were used to obtain the data, as well as the documentary technique, interview and observation. The main results obtained showed that there is no local regulation aimed at specifically protecting children from child labour; however, some institutional initiatives have been implemented by the central bodies of the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion and by the decentralized autonomous municipal government of Antonio Ante, which have not been entirely effective. Thus, from the interviews carried out and the observation made on site, it was evident that the problem persists, and it is necessary to address it from a comprehensive perspective that addresses the structural causes of child labour, combining educational, economic and social strategies that generate opportunities for families and reduce their dependence on income from child labour.
