Abstract
El Centro Residencial Hogar 'Corazón de María' es una entidad dedicada a proporcionar alojamiento, atención y apoyo a personas mayores, quienes enfrentan diversas situaciones asociadas a su edad como el deterioro cognitivo, por lo que ya no pueden vivir de manera independiente en sus hogares. Por lo que se busca brindarles un entorno seguro y cómodo donde los residentes puedan recibir cuidados personalizados y asistencia con sus actividades diarias. En este contexto, la presente investigación se centra en describir el nivel de deterioro cognitivo en la población adulta mayor del Centro Hogar “Corazón de María” de la ciudad de Quito durante el primer semestre del año 2024. Para el cumplimiento de este objetivo, se emplea una investigación de tipo descriptiva con un enfoque cuantitativo, transversal y no experimental. Como instrumento se utiliza el Test KIKA-COG: Cognitive Assessment, aplicado a 103 adultos mayores, con edades comprendidas entre 61 y 109 años de edad, de los cuales 58 son mujeres y 45 son hombres. Los resultados indican que existe un 36% de la población del centro con un deterioro cognitivo muy alto, de los cuales destaca el segmento de edad entre 80 a 89 años con un 15%. Referente a las dimensiones especificas del Test se halló mayor deterioro cognitivo con respecto a la edad, en las áreas de recordar, fluidez verbal, registro, orientación y reconocimiento. Mientras que existen menos variaciones en las áreas de función frontal ejecutiva, retirada gratuita y comprensión.
The Centro Residencial Hogar Corazón de María is an entity dedicated to provide housing, care and support to elderly people, who face various situations associated with their age such as cognitive impairment, so they can no longer live independently in their homes. Therefore, it seeks to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment where residents can receive personalized care and assistance with their daily activities. In this context, the present research focuses on describing the level of cognitive impairment in the elderly population of the Centro Hogar Corazón de María in the city of Quito during the first half of the year 2024. In order to achieve this objective, a descriptive research with a quantitative, cross-sectional and non experimental approach is used. The instrument used was the KIKA-COG: Cognitive Assessment Test, applied to 103 older adults between 61 and 109 years of age, of whom 58 are women and 45 are men. The results indicate that 36% of the center's population has a very high cognitive impairment, with 15% of the population between 80 and 89 years of age. Regarding the specific dimensions of the test, a greater cognitive deterioration with respect to age was found in the areas of recall, verbal fluency, registration, orientation and recognition. While there are less variations in the areas of frontal executive function, free recall and comprehension.
