dc.description.abstractEl espectáculo natural del Volcán Tungurahua, los paisajes y riqueza geológica y cultural de su zona de influencia, los atractivos que tiene Pelileo, generaron la necesidad de proponer la creación de un Geoparque que tenga el reconocimiento de las UNESCO y sea una opción de desarrollo económico sostenible que ha tenido el auspicio a nivel mundial. El territorio tiene todo para constituirse en un GEOPARQUE pues como dictamina la UNESCO es: “Un área definida que presenta rasgos geológicos de especial relevancia, rareza o belleza. Estos rasgos deben ser representativos de la historia geológica de un área particular y de los eventos y procesos que la formaron”, siendo importante considerar además las posibilidades que ofrece a la investigación científica y a la educación sobre el medio ambiente en general (UNESCO, 1999). En términos generales, la implementación del Geoparque requiere la identificación de geositios, con estaciones de interpretación, el diseño de rutas geológicas, la adaptación de centros de interpretación y la capacitación de guías.
dc.description.abstractThe natural spectacle of the Tungurahua Volcano, the landscapes and geological and cultural richness of its area of influence, the attractiveness of Pelileo, generated the need to propose the creation of a Geopark that has the recognition of UNESCO and is an economic development option sustainable development that has been sponsored worldwide. The territory has everything to become a GEOPARQUE because as it dictates UNESCO is: 'A defined area that presents geological features of special relevance, rarity or beauty. These traits must be representative of the geological history of a particular area and of the events and processes that formed it ', and it is important to consider the possibilities offered to scientific research and education on the environment in general (UNESCO, 1999) . In general terms, the implementation of the Geopark requires the identification of geosites, with interpretation stations, the design of geological routes, the adaptation of interpretation centers and the training of guides.en_US
